Microsoft could not be more excited to announce its partnership with Netflix, coming soon to a connected television or device near you.

Beneficial For All Parties

Suggesting that this union is a win-win, soon Netflix consumers will have more subscription options, while advertisers will have the opportunity to showcase their ads on Netflix through Microsoft.

According to the Official Microsoft Blog, “At launch, consumers will have more options to access Netflix’s award-winning content. Marketers looking to Microsoft for their advertising needs will have access to the Netflix audience and premium connected TV inventory….”

These days, the list of “premium” content providers seems never-ending, attracting consumers through original shows, movies, and creative marketing. In addition, choosing where to place digital content has become a daunting task for advertisers without versed advisors.

Some viewers would say that Netflix has stood out amongst the many through its no-commercial strategy at a reasonable price. The question remains, what will these “subscriptions” look like - more like, what will they cost?

In a statement, Netflix COO Greg Peters said that Netflix “...will introduce a new lower-priced ad-supported subscription plan for consumers, in addition to our existing ads-free basic, standard and premium plans.” Displaying the intention of moving into an ad-supported space is to keep services at a lower cost for its viewers.

A 2022 comparison performed by U.S. News named Netflix #1 for “Our Best On-Demand Streaming Services Rating”:

  1. Netflix
  2. Amazon Prime Video
  3. Disney+
  4. Funimation
  5. Hulu

This comparison considered fees, the number of streams permitted, and ads, amongst other things.

Netflix currently provides three plans: Basic, Standard, and Premium, all of which are offered “ad-free” with the option to change or cancel at any time. As it stands, Netflix will release new plans in “early 2023.”
