How would you define 2022? I think most social media managers agree that 2022 has been the year of TikTok-ification. There’s no doubt that TikTok has had a massive impact on the way society functions today. As it turns out, not even Facebook is immune to TikTok’s influence. Continue reading to learn more about the major changes Facebook has made so far in 2022 and how those changes can affect your business’s social media presence.

Feed Changes for Facebook Users

For years, Facebook has worked on making content from family and friends less visible in users’ feeds. Although this might make brands and businesses happy, users are growing more and more frustrated. Facebook’s latest solution is giving users two separate feeds: the Home feed and the Feeds tab. Facebook’s homepage will now be a TikTok-like vertical feed sharing mostly Reels and Stories based on content Facebook’s algorithm chooses to show you. Posts from your friends, family, and groups will be featured chronologically within the Feeds tab.

Reeling Over Reels

To fit the new vertical feed, Facebook is beginning to prioritize Reels over traditional videos. Reels are TikTok-style short-form videos. Meta recently announced that all videos under 10 minutes on Instagram will be automatically converted to Reels. Although this has not been announced for Facebook yet, Facebook has been expanding the tools available to create Reels. Brands can now create reels from their existing videos on Facebook using the Creator Studio. They can also use Business Suite tools to create, schedule, and publish Reels.

Creator Buzz

Soon you’ll be checking Facebook, along with TikTok, to catch up on your favorite creator’s latest content. Facebook is expanding the ways creators can earn money on the social network by adding paid online events, subscriptions, and Reel monetization. Creators can now give paying subscribers on other platforms access to subscriber-only Facebook Groups. Possibly the most important new feature for brands is the Creator Marketplace. Here, brands can discover creators and connect with them through paid partnerships.

Competing with viral content creators and learning how to leverage videos on Facebook means that brands are up for a wild ride in 2022 and beyond.
